Learn all about Munchkin

Munchkin Cat

The Munchkin is a breed that became very well-known due to the size of its legs, which are much smaller in relation to its body. Cats with short legs like the Munchkin were rare, as this characteristic occurs spontaneously as it is an anomaly.

This characteristic gained prominence in the United Kingdom in 1930 and in Russia in 1950, but ended up suffering a decline in its specimens. Like other breeds during the period of the Second World War, it returned to prominence and refinement in the mid-1980s in the United States.

The Munchkin is the name of the town of little people in the tale of The Wizard of Oz, and the name fits well with the characteristics of this breed.

The Munchkin’s diet should be balanced, preferably low in fat and with a good percentage of protein. A diet with super premium foods is important because they contain vitamins and are rich in proteins, vitamins and amino acids that help maintain joints. Scratching posts are a necessity for this breed to wear down and maintain their nails and to use up the energy that the breed has to spare. Litter boxes are very important to have a place to do their business, but you must pay attention to the height of the box so that the cat can climb up without any problems.
